Healing Herbs from the Culinary Garden

These are the six slides of the 22 Sept 2020 presentation by Suzanne Teachey, owner of Nectar Apothecary.

The presentation started with herbs categorized by their healing properties. Suzanne talked about when and how to harvest the active parts of the plants: fall or spring for roots, just before flowers open for lavender, and pretty much any time in full summer for the leaves of green herbs. We learned a number of tips on drying, including the importance of using a rubber band and of keeping the Excelsior air dryer set below 105F. She introduced us to the various forms of herbal preparations. If, for example, you want to take a herbal bath, boil the herbs in a muslin bag, then pour the infusion, bag and all into the bath.

It was a whirlwind tour of the subject, and a wonderful starting point for further study.
