This Garden Gertie tip is Mary Ann Mira’s. It concerns deterring small critters from invading your garden space and digging it up.
I have birds and neighborhood cats that play havoc with my raised garden bed, which is still fairly empty until Mother’s Day planting begins. You can place plastic forks throughout the dirt, tines facing up, and it will help keep the unwanted visitors away – as you can see from the attached picture of my garden bed, I found some pink and red plastic forks to add a splash of color to my garden! Also helpful are pieces of garden art on stakes. Prior to using this tip in my garden, critters were digging in my garden every night. Since the forks have gone in, no more damage has occurred!
